Oct. 15, 2016 NIFE Fall Color Tour & NIFE’s 25th Anniversary Dinner Party
This year’s Fall Color Tour will be a break from the normal routine as this year we will include two events in one day: our 2016 Fall Color Tour and NIFE’s 25th anniversary dinner celebration. The day’s events will begin at the McDonald’s located at 1019 Maple Ave in Lisle, IL 60532. We will plan to DEPART from here at 1:00pm. If you would like to have lunch prior to our departure, please arrive accordingly to be ready to leave at 1:00pm.
Heading South on I-355, we will exit onto I-80 West over to the Larkin Avenue exit. From here we will get on US-6 to head into Channahon, IL to meet up with our hosts, NIFE Member Hank Roe and friend of NIFE Roger Gerken (you may recall them as they planned out our 2016 Spring Driving Tour as well) at the Channahon Parkway State Park. We will plan to meet here around 2:00pm.
Our first stop on this year’s Fall Color Tour will be the I&M Canal Park in Channahon, IL where our club will see an example of some amazing engineering dating back to the 1840’s. To cross the Du Page River the builders had two choices, build a long and expensive aqueduct to carry the canal boats across the river or build a causeway creating a deep pool so the boats could cross using the river. They chose a causeway that the Du Page River cascades down on its way to the Illinois River. The Park also has one of only two surviving Lock Masters houses on the western part of the I&M.
The next stop, after driving down into the Illinois Valley, is the Aux Able lock and aqueduct that crosses a stream too small for a causeway. The other Lockmasters house is in this little park. Our group will then travel on one of the old trails into Morris, IL. The fall colors should be very nice. In Morris, just south of the Grundy County Courthouse, is the Morris I&M Canal Park. One of the features we will see here is a reproduction of a canal boat. On leaving Morris we will take IL Route 47 North to head to our NIFE 25th anniversary dinner, which will take place at Claddagh Irish Pub located at 1702 Commons Drive in Geneva, IL 60134. Check out their website located at www.claddaghirishpubs.com/geneva/  If you are not able to join us on this year’s Fall Color Tour, join us at Claddagh’s Irish Pub around 5:00pm for a dinner celebration honoring NIFE’s 25th anniversary.

June 25, 2016 NIFE Cruise Night - Lisle, IL
Come out to Lisle, IL for their June cruise night! Lisle, IL has a downtown cruise night on the last Saturday of each month, May-August. NIFE has designated the June 25, 2016 cruise night for our club members to attend. NIFE participated in this cruise night in July 2015 and had a great turn out.
The cruise night hours are 5:00pm–9:00pm, but you are welcome to come at any time during these hours. Normally, about forty or more cars attend. There is live music, a DJ, plus a local restaurant sets up a barbecue on the street serving brats, hot dogs, pizza, and beverages; so plan to have something to eat while at the cruise! There is also a great Mexican restaurant right on Main Street where the cruise is located.
The location is on Lisle’s Main Street, just South of Ogden Avenue, which is about one mile West of I-355 and a short distance East of Route 53. Hope you can make it!

June 11-17, 2016 NIFE in the Hot Rod Power Tour - Gonzales, Louisiana to in Kansas City, Kansas

Full details and information on this event can be found on the NIFE Hot Rod Power Tour Page

The Power Tour consists of seven cruise nights in seven cities across the USA in seven days, starting this year on Saturday June 11, 2016, in Gonzales, LA with a cruise night from 10:00am - 7:00pm. The Tour departs the morning of June 12, following a predetermined route to the next city where there is a cruise night between approximately 12:00pm - 7:00pm; repeating this schedule again for the next five days. Participants can stay at the cruise nights as long as they like and get there at their leisure. Some cruise nights have had up to 5,000 participants and many more spectators. There are vendor giveaways throughout the tour and sometimes special events are planned for participants (i.e. open drags, laps on race tracks, autocross, etc.).
The driving route between the venues is conducted through small towns on paved country roads with minor amounts of interstate driving; usually ranging from 200 to 300 miles each day. The route is announced about two weeks before the beginning of the tour. The rural routes sometimes result in traffic congestion for a mile or more while entering venues. It is an unforgettable sight driving with magnificent cars, with people on the street watching as the cars go by. Throughout the entire tour, anyone can join or leave at anytime, or do the entire trip and be a “Long Hauler.” Registration fees depend on the number of stops in which you participate (driving the route is free to the public).
The Power Tour doesn’t only consist of ‘60/’70’s muscle cars, custom rides, or street rods. Other participants of the tour respect the Fiero and see it as an icon of “Pontiac Excitement”. There are new, exotic, and daily driven cars that participate too. Participating vehicles don’t have to be in show condition; there is no judging at any of the venues. The Power Tour is more about the enjoyment of driving, community, and friendships.

Some Fiero’s from Texas, Louisiana, and Kansas have already said they will be attending some of the stops this year. If you plan on attending, hotels need to be booked soon, as many hotels at each stop sell out very quickly. Visit www.hotrod.com for more information.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at STCampbell328@hotmail.com (please use subject: FIERO HOT ROD POWER TOUR) or call/text 630-816-5291. I have done the Power Tour for seven years and have much information to share; however my level of participation for this year’s tour is uncertain.
June 2-5, 2016 2016 Dells Run - Wisconsin Dells, WI
It is time again for our annual Fiero community pilgrimage to converge in the Wisconsin Dells. The Fiero Fanatics of Wisconsin will be hosting Fiero owners from across the Midwest starting Thursday, June 2, 2016, and running through Sunday, June 5, 2016 for the 24th annual Dells Run event. This event is four days of Fiero fun with countless opportunities to meet new Fiero friends and experience everything Fiero – from mild to wild!
The Dells Run will be the first stop on this year’s Midwest Fiero Clubs’ (MWFC) show circuit. This year we will honor the 1988 Fiero Formula, which offered the exciting performance of the Fiero GT in a more affordable notchback body style package. Each show on this year’s circuit will select its “Best Interpretation” of a '88 Fiero Formula. The “Best Interpretation” could be either a completely original Fiero, or a wildly modified Fiero; it is up to you, as this will be a peer judged award, so you get to choose the car that you feel is the “Best Interpretation”. The only requirement for winning is that this Fiero needs to be based on the '88 Fiero Formula! Check out the new and improved www.midwestfieroclubs.com for more details about all of the shows on the 2016 circuit.
Some of the events NIFE has planned for Friday include: a visit to the nearby picturesque Devils Lake State Park followed by a trip to the Circus World Museum in nearby Baraboo, WI. Friday’s event will conclude with a group dinner. After the traditional Dells Run cruise through the downtown area on Saturday after the car show, a group dinner will follow.
The host hotel and show site will again be the Chula Vista Resort. Call 1-888-601-7053 to make your reservations. Please call early to guarantee a room; ask for the “Fiero Fanatics Club” discount. It is a beautiful location and the staff has been very accommodating to all the Fiero people in the past. Please consider pre-registering for this event. A registration form is available to download on our website at Fierofocus.com or visit fierofanatics.com for more information.
On Sunday, June 5, 2016, we will caravan back to Illinois after the awards ceremony and traditional NIFE club photo. We plan to be back on the road back home by 11:30am-12:00pm. Join us for great times and good fun in the scenic Wisconsin Dells.

Apr. 23, 2016 NIFE Club Meeting - Grayslake, IL
On the road again! Join us April 23, 2016 as we take our NIFE Club meeting north to the Rock Chevrolet dealership located at 1000 E. Belvidere Road in Grayslake, IL on Route 120 West of I-94. Our meeting will start at 10:00am.
This meeting will focus on the pavement side of our cars. We’ll have a Fiero up on a car lift and we have a demonstration on a head to tail inspection to make sure your Fiero is safe and ready for the upcoming spring and summer driving season. Despite the plastic bodies, the mechanical and rubber components of our cars don’t last forever. Inspection and preventive maintenance are very important. Learn what to look for when a component should be watched and when a repair is needed. Our presenter is professional mechanic and NIFE Club Member Eric Dyreson who is very familiar with the Fiero and its idiosyncrasies. Gain the knowledge to avoid mechanical surprises going down the road as this year’s driving season begins.
After the meeting, feel free to join us for a group lunch at Sammies Chicago Style Sandwiches located at 799 E. Belvidere Road in Grayslake, IL (847-223-4663); about one mile from Rock Chevrolet.

Mar. 19, 2016 NIFE Club Meeting - Lisle, IL - NEW START TIME AT 10AM
On Saturday, March 19, 2016, NIFE will have our third winter season club meeting. Our meeting will be held at the Lisle Library located at 777 Front Street, which is at the intersection of Kingston Avenue and Front Street (southeast corner) in Lisle, IL. After our club meeting, we will head out for lunch; feel free to join us before heading back home for the remainder of your Saturday.
At this meeting, we will be doing some live webcasts with two of our Fierorama Key Sponsors: first with Matt Hartzog, owner of The Fiero Store, and then we will chat with Chris Nelson, owner of Black Top Racing. Have your questions ready because you will be able to get your answers directly from the source! Learn more about what these two companies can offer us to help keep our Fieros on the road.
Finally at this meeting, NIFE Activity Director Jeff Jones will do a presentation on some of the top destinations for Fiero information that can be found on the Internet. If you are not sure which websites are the best resources for the Fiero owner, or if your search capabilities of Pennock’s Fiero Forum (Fiero.nl) are a bit rusty, Jeff will give us a refresher on how and where we can find the best Fiero related information on the Internet.
NIFE will also be broadcasting this meeting live through our website. Check out the Events section on Fierofocus.com for details on the live streaming. So, if you can’t make the meeting, or if you are too far away to attend, please feel free to experience this meeting in the comfort of your own home.

Jan. 16, 2016 NIFE Club Meeting - Lisle, IL - NEW START TIME AT 10AM
On Saturday, January 16, 2016, NIFE will have our second winter season club meeting. Our meeting will be held at the Lisle Library located at 777 Front Street, which is at the intersection of Kingston Avenue and Front Street (southeast corner) in Lisle, IL. You can call 630-971-1675 for directions. Our meeting will start at 10:00am.
Rather than our “usual” two to three subject topics per meeting, this meeting will cover what I am calling “Common Fiero Idiosyncrasies”, What to do and How to do it! We will have a “panel” of Fiero experts (NIFE members!), who will discuss common issues, what causes them and what you should do to either fix, repair, or prevent them in the future. I know you could come up with a great list and we encourage you to recall your own Fiero’s idiosyncrasies and introduce them to our “experts” at this meeting!  We had a similar meeting back in January 2014 and January 2015 with excellent participation results. While the items listed below are not comprehensive by any means, we will discuss these and many more. Our topics will include items like: cooling fan not coming on; engine stalls at a stop light (automatic transmission car); how to know when the clutch is failing; symptoms of a bad fuel pump; solving an erratic oil pressure gauge; headlight motors don’t turn off after engine stops; symptoms of a bad ignition module; and what to do when the gas gauge improperly indicates the fuel level. I am sure you may have more of these! If you would like something specifically addressed at this meeting that is not in our list above, please send it to me (see board member’s box for contact information) no later than Saturday, January 9, 2016 so we can have our “experts” be prepared to respond at this meeting. There will also be an opportunity to recommend topics on the NIFE Facebook page and at our November 14th, 2015 club meeting.
We will be doing a live webcast of this meeting. Check back for details on the live streaming. So, if you can’t make the meeting, or if you are too far away to attend, please feel free to experience this meeting in the comfort of your own home.
